Comelec urges voters to submit to biometrics validation

OROQUIETA CITY: The Comelec is urging all registered voters whose biometrics have not been captured to submit themselves for validation at the Office of the City or Municipal Election Officer.

Voters who fail to submit for validation on or before the last day of filing of application for registration for purposes of the May 2016 elections shall be deactivated, it said.

The biometrics registration system is mandated by Comelec for new voters pursuant to RA No. 10367, “An Act Providing for Mandatory Biometrics Voters Registration.”

Biometrics is the quantitative analysis that will positively identify an individual such as voice, photograph, fingerprint, signature, among other identifiable features.

Meanwhile, the Comelec also laid out the offenses punishable under Omnibus Election Code, such as prohibiting, impede, obstruct or prevent a registered voter or a new voter from submitting his or her biometrics for capture through the use of force, intimidation or monetary consideration.(WITH REPORTS FROM PIA)
