4 arrested for 'hantak' in Dumingag

Dumingag, ZamboSur: Driven immediately by the call-out of the governor, this town’s police made the first stroke on the summon to eradicate illegal gambling in the province.

In a news dispatched by P/Insp. Dahlan T. Samuddin to the media, he said that an inquest case has been forwarded by the PNP to the prosecutor’s office against four suspects for violation of PD 1602.

Signed by then President Ferdinand Marcos, PD 1602 or the Philippine Gambling Law includes cockfighting, cara y cruz, jueteng, card games, slot machines, boat racing, car racing and other races, among others.

Samuddin identified those arrested as Juelito Capa, Ramel Saragene, Ryan Albios, Samuel Salibay, Alden Ganza, Arnold Mainit and Rodel Gantunok.

The four were arrested in Brgy Caridad in the afternoon of Nov. 6 playing “Hantak.”

Confiscated from the suspects were gambling materials and bet money.

Two weeks ago, Gov. Antonio Cerilles declared war against all forms of illegal gambling in the province, reconstituting the Task Force on Anti-Illegal Gambling under Executive Order 10 to run after suspected financiers and supporters of all forms illegal gambling in the province.

Also on July last year, Cerilles first declared an all-out war against illegal gambling activity sounding out his one-strike policy to policemen who are protectors in this nefarious activity.
