PAGADIAN CITY: A son of a Chinese businessman who was kidnapped and held in captivity for the last two months was freed by his captors, Wednesday, at Sitio Lugay, Brgy. Naga, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay, police and military officials said.

The freed kidnap victim was identified as Peiji Li, also known as Wellie Li 18, forcibly abducted at his family’s mini mall last Sept.11, around 6:45 in the evening in Brgy. Poblacion Kabasalan, Zambo Sibugay.

The Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) also reported that Li’s abductors were suspected to be members of Kidnap for Ransom (KFR) group while no information was given whether his family paid ransom in exchange for his release.

A military brief said hot pursuit operation was launched by the joint elements of police and military forces to look for Li at the time he was kidnapped but his kidnappers were able to slip him to Basilan, where he was held captive for the whole time.

Police Region-9 Acting Information Officer P/Insp. Dahlan Tidal Samudin said the victim is now under the custody of Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police where he undergoes debriefing.

A police report from Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay said Li was brought by his abductors from Basilan province on Tuesday and then released to a certain PO1 Jimnazur Laja of Alicia Municipal Police Station where he was later brought to the headquarters of Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office.

The victim is now reunited with his family in Zamboanga Sibugay as the Chinese Embassy issued a warning to its citizens not to travel to the Philippines.

Four KFR suspects were identified by police in the kidnapping: Ibni Basaludin, Yug Enriquez, Brahama Ali, and Ging-Ging Calon-- all residents of Brgy Tenan, Ipil, Zambo Sibugay.
