6 minors rescued from human trafficking

PAGADIAN CITY: Police rescued from human trafficking six females--five of them minors--in a karaoke bar in Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur, information reaching Misamis News Digest said.

Police Regional Office 9 P/Insp. Dahlan Samuddin said the victims were rescued by the combined police operatives of Siay in the nearby Sibugay province and Pitogo with MSWD personnel in the karaoke house owned by a certain Gloria Pacatang alias Nining and Sita Mandano in Poblacion Pitogo.

Samuddin the said the rescued victims came from this city and the nearby towns of Siay and Pitogo.

Samuddin added that the victims and two of the victims’ mother told him the minors were recruited without parental consent and told to work in a karaoke bar.

As of press time, DSWD provided stress debriefing to the rescued victims after which they were turned over to their respective families.

In Zamboanga City, some 50 would-be victims of human trafficking were reportedly rescued Nov. 4, Wednesday, at a private wharf in Baliwasan, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) said.

The rescued victims were on board the ML Nurhina, a passenger vessel docked at the wharf reportedly bound for Sandakan, North Borneo where jobs supposedly awaited the undocumented passengers.

The victims, added the ZCPO Anti-Vice Section, were later brought to the anti-trafficking organization Visayan Forum for processing.
