Sto. Niño execs plant mangrove in Poloyagan to celebrate village feast

PAGADIAN CITY: Village officials and volunteers from its 16 puroks led by Sto. Niño Chairman Dominador Yocogo Jr. led a mangrove planting activity, Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the coastal area of Brgy. Poloyagan.

Yocogo said their barangay is located on high ground and they don’t have an area where to plant trees so they decided to choose Poloyagan for mangrove plantation.

It was also upon the recommendation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) which identified Poloyagan for the planting activity as it is a protected area listed for mangrove conservation.

A total of 1,000 mangrove propagules were planted by Yocogo and company along with some members of the City Police Station timed during their weeklong Barangay 30th Foundation Day Tuesday morning.

This year’s celebration carried the theme “Panaghiusa sa tanan ug giya sa kahitas-an makab-ot and kalambuan” where throughout the week a clean-up drive all over the barangay was made.

A sports festival will conclude the foundation day on Nov. 11 through an ecumenical mass and a motorcade with a grand raffle in the afternoon.

Yocogo said they do tree planting activities every anniversary of their village, recalling that for last year, they planted 300 Mahogany seedlings at the PCWD Watershed area in Danlugan.

For his part, City Police Chief Supt. Glenn Dulawan expressed his gratitude to Yocogo and his officials for inviting his police members to join in the mangrove planting.

Dulawan said it is also the thrust of the PNP in assisting the community on development on environmental protection efforts.
