ILIGAN
CITY: Iligan Rep. Vicente “Varf” Belmonte Jr. faces a libel case for allegedly
linking Mayor Celso Regencia to his ambush.
Belmonte
survived a slay try at Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental, Dec. 11 where three
of his men in the convoy were killed in the attack.
Belmonte
earlier blamed local politics for the ambush attempt, noting that it happened
after he announced his running for mayor of Iligan in 2016.
He
likewise said some of the ambush suspects are linked to Regencia.
Regencia
retorted Belmonte has no basis connecting him to the ambush attempt.
The
mayor said Belmonte can confront him in court if the congressman believes he
has enough evidence to prove his allegations, saying his guilt is a matter left
up to the courts.
