OROQUIETA CITY: The Comelec says filing
of certificates of candidacy for the SK elections on February 21, this year,
has been set from Feb. 7 to 9.
This is in line with Comelec calendar,
Sanivier G. Patoc, DILG provincial director of said.
As provided for in the Local
Government Code, among the qualifications of the SK candidates is that he or she
must be a Filipino citizen and a registered voter with the “Katipunan ng
Kabataan.”
He or she must also be a resident
of the barangay for at least a year before the election, must meet the
mandatory ages of 15-17 years old, able to read and write in Filipino, English
and the local dialect and never been imprisoned due to a criminal act.
Likewise, he or she must not have
been involved in offenses against moral turpitude, such as, rape, robbery or
theft, obscene language or oral defamation, Patoc said.
The law also specifies the term of
office of the elected SK officials to three years, if he or she is not removed
from office for cause or dies, resigns or become incapacitated.
In case of vacancy, however, the SK
official will be replaced, following the guidelines set for filling up of
vacancies in the law.
