All Souls Day in Zambosur peaceful

PAGADIAN CITY: Police Provincial Director S/Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said the observance of the All Souls as normally peaceful and quiet with no unpleasant incidents reported due to security measures jointly implemented by the military and LGUs.

Ecaldre added the PNP raised a red alert since Friday until Monday to make sure the people going to and fro the cemeteries are protected.

Random checking of passersby was likewise made by the Provincial Public Safety Battalion in the national highway along the boundaries of Misamis Occidental, Lanao Norte, Zambonorte and Zambo Sibugay.

This was also implemented at the Integrated Bus Terminals (IBT), public markets, shopping malls and in coastal areas.

Police Public Assistance Center in both public and private cemeteries made easy coordination with the PDRRMC and the Barangay Emergency Response Team (BERT), he said.

Ecaldre said that the PNP put into operation tight security re-routing of all public utility and private vehicles entering Paglaum, Sta. Maria and Tuburan on the way to the Public Cemetery and Memorial Garden.

The city government also provided multi-cab vehicles offering free rides within the vicinity of Public Cemetery and Memorial Garden because PUJs were not allowed within the area. 

As for the fire department, no fire incidents were reported.

For himself, city police chief Supt. Glenn Dulawan said the PNP Public Assistance Center only “manageable” problems such as missing graves in the public cemetery.

Dulawan added it was only on Monday that two drunk suspects were arrested and detained because of aggressive fighting with each other.
